SaveChinatownYVR is a grassroots campaign committed to fighting against gentrification in Vancouver’s Chinatown.
Our work has three core purposes:
Fight external gentrification pressures
Resisting government policies, real estate developers, gentrifier businesses, and other gentrifying forces that threaten Chinatown’s survival.
Fight internal gentrification within the Chinese diaspora
Calling out when our own communities contribute to gentrification by Orientalizing, appropriating, erasing culture, or economically displacing our own people and neighbours while enabling external gentrifiers.Document resistance for the historic record
Demonstrating that Chinatown did not passively accept erasure, but fought back, so future generations know this struggle against gentrification took place.
