We promise you won't get policed out of the Chinatown Plaza Mall this Sat + New Yarrow merch!
And don't forget #METOO in China on Sat evening!
Almost a year ago, the management of the City-owned Chinatown Plaza Mall called the police on seniors doing tai chi to the public’s horror. Thankfully, the situation was temporarily resolved late last year and the seniors can now practice their morning exercise twice a week with Yarrow (Donate to Yarrow’s amazing exercise program here!)
On Saturday, Chinatown Together is hosting the first ever public tai chi workshop in the same space. In fact, the oldest member of the group that was kicked out, Mrs. Ma who’s over 90, is the one who will be teaching us tai chi this Saturday from 2-3pm.
We’ve come a long way since last year, but the work doesn’t stop here because we need to keep showing up to show the City we want to continue use the space for community and culture. Come do tai chi us tomorrow.
Even though there’s lots of work ahead to reactivate the mall, we’re still going to take a moment to celebrate this Saturday. So not only will there be tai chi tomorrow, there’ll also be food and fun for everyone afterwards! And we’ll triple promised you won’t get policed out this time!
🗓️ WHEN: Saturday, March 9th 2024
⏰ TIME: 2:00PM-3:00PM (Then head over to the #METOO in China exhibit opening hosted by our friends at UniCome at 6:30pm at 312 Main!)

Support Yarrow by getting their new merch!
Our friends at Yarrow Intergenerational Society just dropped new merch for their fundraiser! They have everything from cute lucky cat sweaters, t-shirts and totes, to zines created by youth and elders in Chinatown.
Every purchase contributes to their 2024 Weaving Hearts 世代相𠄘心心相繫fundraiser, supporting vital services and community events in Chinatown, including the twice weekly morning seniors exercise classes at Chinatown Plaza Mall.
Want to work for Yarrow? They have several job openings and looking for board members!
#METOO in China exhibit opening (Sat, Mar 9)
Curated by our friends at the Vancouver UniCome, the #MeToo in China Exhibition opens on March 9th near Chinatown! 2018 marks the first year of the #MeToo Movement in China. Six years have passed, many cases have gradually disappeared from people’s sight or been erased by censorship.
The #MeToo Exhibition is a testimony of countless "MeToo", a journey of how "MeToo" has evolved to “Rice Bunny”, a human library of victims' actions, and a continuation of the resistance of survivors and Chinese feminist activists.
On Mar 10, the exhibition will host the world premiere of Demand an Answer from History, a documentary about the landmark sexual harassment case Xianzi v. Zhu Jun, and the experiences of the MeToo supporters outside the court.
Exhibition: Mar 9 SAT (7–10 pm), Mar 10 SUN– Mar 12 TUE (10am – 8pm)
Opening & Panelist Sharing: Mar 9 SAT 7 pm
Admission: The exhibition is free, donation is appreciated.
Location: 312 Main St
Documentary Premiere: Mar 10 SUN 7 pm, spots are limited, reserve your ticket now.
