A 107-year-old rallied against 105 Keefer yesterday. You need to speak against 105 Keefer on Monday at City Hall.
Last chance to register to speak and write a letter to City Hall.
Yesterday’s rally organized by the SRO Collaborative and Vancouver Tenants Union brought out over 400 attendees aged 5 to 107. It was a powerful demonstration of community solidarity and care.
But Beedie’s 105 Keefer supporters like Jordan Eng from the Chinatown Business Improvement Association, unilaterally dismissed everyone involved by claiming in the media that “opponents to the project don’t represent the majority of Chinatown residents and stakeholders.”
We need to push back and show that we’re not nobodies, but people who genuinely care about the wellbeing of our community and the future of Chinatown.
But that means showing up. The last time 105 Keefer was defeated, 100 people turned up at City Hall to speak.
Right now, we’re not even close to that number by a far stretch.
There are not enough people registered to speak at the Development Permit Board hearing next Monday, May 29 at City Hall, and that’s very troubling.
The process was not designed for monolingual seniors to navigate, making it difficult for the most affected people to voice their concerns.
However, you have the power to use your voice by showing up and speaking when it matters most, which is next Monday.
Register to speak on Monday, May 29 at City Hall.
Button not working? Email kathy.cermeno@vancouver.ca and may.sem@vancouver.ca to register. More info about the hearing here. Your speaking time will likely be much later than 3pm. If you need childcare, transportation or other accomodations on the day to be able to speak, please reply to this email to let us know and we will try to make accommodations for you.
If you haven’t written your letter yet, this is your last chance to submit a letter to make it count in the staff report:
