It's not over. Round 2 of hearings on June 12.
We need to fight back even harder on June 12. Save the date. Take action now.
Yesterday was an incredible showing of community solidarity and power. Over a hundred people across generations and backgrounds came out to protest and speak against 105 Keefer at the community’s People’s Permit Board rally and the City’s Development Permit Board. The City’s hearing was initially held at meeting room named after the late Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden architect, Joe Wai. Glacier Media counted that of the 48 speakers who were able to speak in front of the City’s board, only 6 were in support.
But we haven’t won yet. It’s not over by a far stretch.
Round 2 of the Development Permit Board hearing is on June 12 for more speakers.
You can be sure that Beedie will be using all their power, resources, and connections to mobilize their supporters.
We need to fight back even harder with an even bigger mobilization than yesterday. But it’ll take all your help.
Here’s how:
Donate to mobilization funds (Thank you for those who have donated so far, it’s been an absolute lifesaver!)
Register to speak on Jun 12 3pm ASAP (Link doesn’t work? 604.873.7770 or email kathy.cermeno@vancouver.ca and may.sem@vancouver.ca. Please request for translation if needed. More info here and speaking tips here.)
Write a letter (They’re not accepting website comments anymore, but you can still email them.)
PS - In other news, during the hearing, an elder who spoke, recounted a shocking story of how the management of the City of Vancouver-owned Chinatown Plaza called the cops on her and other seniors who they were trying to exercise there last week. More here.
