The Rio Theatre stands in solidarity with our fight for Chinatown. Prepare for the upcoming battle at City Hall on Monday by watching "Big Fight in Little Chinatown" this Saturday.
Invite your friends and family to see the acclaimed "Big Fight in Little Chinatown" film this Saturday Jun 10 at 2pm
With 5 sold-out screenings, the Rio Theatre announced an additional screening this Saturday, Jun 10, 2pm of Karen Cho’s acclaimed Big Fight in Little Chinatown documentary (trailer) that highlights the battles to save Chinatowns across North America, including Vancouver’s.
The Rio Theatre stands in solidarity with our fight for Vancouver’s Chinatown, saying:
In 2018, the Rio Theatre put up its own fight against encroaching development when the property was listed for sale, which triggered the launch of our (very successful!) #SavetheRio Campaign that eventually resulted in our being able to buy the building outright - preserving the business and venue for the people of Vancouver. We stand in solidarity with our neighbours in Vancouver's Chinatown, who are currently dealing with this very urgent and pressing issue of gentrification.
Invite your friends and family to the Saturday film screening to get inspired for the fight against 105 Keefer to protect Vancouver’s Chinatown at city hall.
After watching the movie, take action! Sign up to speak at the city hall hearing against Beedie’s 105 Keefer on Monday, Jun 12. (We need more speakers because the developer's supporters will likely be present in large numbers this time.)

Additional actions you can take to help: Donate now to replenish the mobilization funds to transport seniors and volunteers to city hall. Write a letter to the city on why they should refuse 105 Keefer again.
P.S. - If you can’t make it to the Saturday screening, there are more screenings at the VIFF Theatre from Jun 16 to 20. More info here.
