Help activate the Chinatown Plaza Mall!
We need your help to show the city there's demand for cultural events at the mall
You know the empty mall in Chinatown that’s waiting to be activated? (Yes, the one that policed elders out from doing tai chi). Yes, this one:
Well in a turn of events, the City of Vancouver is letting us animate it for a Tea and Paint for Lantern Festival this upcoming Saturday, Feb 24th! This could be the beginning of this city-owned space being used for more community-first cultural activities.
But we need your help to activate it and demonstrate its potential, as well as the demand for utilizing the Chinatown Plaza Mall for cultural and community activities.
So come have a dim sum lunch at Floata, then join us at Tea and Paint downstairs at 1pm this Sat, Feb 24.
You’ll learn how to paint florals and lanterns with artist @Lucky.Munyi to celebrate Lantern Festival, 元宵節 (Yuan Xiao Jie), the end of Lunar New Year.
Instructions will be available in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Tea and snacks will be provided. This is a mask mandatory event.
Date: Sat, Feb 24 1-3pm
Location: Chinatown Plaza Mall (106 Keefer St)
Pssst….We run out of funding in July
It’s true, we’re run out of funding to put on events in July with no secured sources of funding on the horizon, so we need your help to keep things going. If you love the free and inclusive public cultural events that we host in Chinatown to push back against gentrification, please consider donating!
