Our first ever Chinatown Mini Night Market and Film Night featuring Shaolin Soccer was a blast! (yea, we’ll get to the Owen Wilson part later)
At the mini night market, we had seniors, community vendors, fortune telling, and of course food:
We started the evening with community performances featuring everything from music to sword dancing to kung fu:
Around the plaza, there were games like mahjong taught by Chantal and Jason, and a Beyblade tournament hosted by Baapooh:
To help us kick us off the screening, Chau Luen Athletics performed a lion dance:
Then Steph, Bryce, Mrs. Hui and Shawn presented their short film: In Chinatown, Episode One, that featured Mrs. Hui and Shawn from Chau Luen Athletics:

Here’s the Owen Wilson part…
During the screening, the Hollywood actor (yes, the actual Owen Wilson) walked through the plaza, and gave a nod and audible acknowledgement “Shaolin Soccer!” to the legendary Stephen Chow film. Here’s the proof:

We’re hosting the next Chinatown Summer Film Night this Saturday featuring the local short Rebirth from the Flames, and feature film Dead Pigs, a dark comedy about a commercializing Shanghai. The night will be kicked off with a Chinatown Seniors and Youth Fashion Show benefiting Yarrow Society!
