INVITE: Cantonese Opera in Chinatown + Arts & Justice Panel
Don't miss the last event of our spring season!
Did you know? Vancouver’s Chinatown used to be home to at least 6 Cantonese Opera Houses! That’s why we’re bringing Cantonese Opera back to the public!
Join us in celebrating Father’s Day, with special performances by 梨園之星 Lee Yuen Cheer Sing Opera troupe and the second iteration of our Seniors Mini Market.
We will also be bringing back William’s Library and providing complimentary refreshments.
🗓️WHEN: Sunday, June 16 2024, 2:00PM to 5:00PM
📍WHERE: Chinatown Plaza Mall - 106 Keefer Street
This will be a unique and interactive experience like no other Cantonese Opera performance before! Lee Yuen Cheer Sing Opera troupe will be taking the stage to showcase and share the intricate techniques and symbolism of Cantonese Opera makeup and costumes before diving into 5 performances. Don't miss this special opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of this traditional art form!
The 5 short-form plays performed will be:
牡丹亭驚夢之遊園驚夢 / The Peony Pavilion: A Dream in the Garden
The Flower Princess: An Encounter
Gratitude and Revenge at the Phoenix Pavilion
The Peony Pavilion: The Secret Dating of a Ghost and a Man
Sister-in-law's Sword Competition at the Fanjiang Pass
Help us continue Chinatown Together events until the end of the year!
We short on funding to be able to run events until the end of the year. We’ll need to raise at least $8k more to be able to keep running twice monthly events. If you love the free and inclusive public cultural events that we host in Chinatown to push back against gentrification, please consider donating.
