Calligraphy Workshop + Tai Chi Venue Change
Help us reactivate the Chinatown Plaza Mall with culture this March
To our delight, we found out we can be back at the Chinatown Plaza Mall again in March! Hooray!
Join us for Ink & Unity: A Rhythmic Blend of Chinese calligraphy, Music, and Tea and help activate the space and reclaim culture in Chinatown.
We’re collaborating with the esteemed calligraphy master Jiangang Su to present a FREE calligraphy course.
Dive into the ancient tradition of Chinese calligraphy and learn about the 12 zodiac animals while discovering the beauty of your name through brushwork in this engaging 2-hour workshop. With limited seating for only 20 attendees, secure your spot before tickets vanish!
As you immerse yourself in the art of brushstrokes, indulge in the enchanting melodies of pipa performance by @zoeakalife and savour the tranquil elegance of a traditional tea ceremony hosted by @thefakesaibot.

Pssst….We run out of funding in July
It’s true, we’re run out of funding to put on events in July with no secured sources of funding on the horizon, so we need your help to keep things going. If you love the free and inclusive public cultural events that we host in Chinatown to push back against gentrification, please consider donating!
Venue Change for Tai Chi with Mrs. Ma (Sat, Mar 9)
Due to weather concerns, we’ve moved the Tai Chi Workshop with Mrs. Ma indoors to the Chinatown Plaza Mall. We promise you won’t be policed out by mall management like what Chinatown seniors experienced last year. (How far we’ve come!)
And if you were worried about the cold and rain, you won’t need to anymore. Come learn tai chi with Mrs. Ma, the sword-welding activist elder. There will also be food and refreshments for everyone.
🗓️ WHEN: Saturday, March 9th 2024
⏰ TIME: 2:00PM-3:00PM
📍WHERE: Chinatown Plaza Mall - 106 Keefer Street
(If the RSVP is full, please come anyway!)
Can’t make it? Join Tai Chi with Yarrow on Sat, Mar 23 from 2-3pm right after the calligraphy workshop!
This event is supported by the Vancouver Foundation Neighbourhood Small Grants, City of Vancouver, and our generous community donors.
Don’t miss #METOO in China Exhibit and Documentary (Sat, Mar 9)
Curated by our friends at the Vancouver UniCome, the #MeToo in China Exhibition opens on March 9th near Chinatown! 2018 marks the first year of the #MeToo Movement in China. Six years have passed, many cases have gradually disappeared from people’s sight or been erased by censorship.
The #MeToo Exhibition is a testimony of countless "MeToo", a journey of how "MeToo" has evolved to “Rice Bunny”, a human library of victims' actions, and a continuation of the resistance of survivors and Chinese feminist activists.
On Mar 10, the exhibition will host the world premiere of Demand an Answer from History, a documentary about the landmark sexual harassment case Xianzi v. Zhu Jun, and the experiences of the MeToo supporters outside the court.
Exhibition: Mar 9 SAT (7–10 pm), Mar 10 SUN– Mar 12 TUE (10am – 8pm)
Opening & Panelist Sharing: Mar 9 SAT 7 pm
Admission: The exhibition is free, donation is appreciated.
Location: 312 Main St
Documentary Premiere: Mar 10 SUN 7 pm, spots are limited, reserve your ticket now.
