Big Fight in Little Chinatown is going to Richmond
Join us on July 20th for film and community panel
We’re back with Big Fight in Little Chinatown, and we’re on the road to Richmond!
Chinatown Together is collaborating with 360 社區 Community to host a free film screening of Big Fight in Little Chinatown followed by a community panel!
WHEN: Saturday, July 20 2024, 6:30PM to 8:30PM, Doors Open at 6:00 PM
WHERE: St. Alban’s Anglican Church 7260 St Albans Rd, Richmond, BC V6Y 2K3
360 社區 Community has been ambitiously cultivating a safe space for queer Chinese-Canadian Christians in the Richmond Christian community. Rev. Bill Mok reached out to us earlier this year during the Chinatown Spring Festival fiasco. It was a great conversation on how we can create more community unity within and around the Chinese community — specifically, but not limited to LGBTQ+ inclusion. We decided to combine resources and bring Big Fight in Little Chinatown to Richmond and facilitate a panel discussion to connect with the community.
We have an amazing panel lineup of:
Beverly Ho of Yarrow Society
William Liu of Kam Wai Dim Sum
Iris C - Co-Chair of the New West Public Library Board
Swallow Z - Long-time Chinatown elder & member of the Carnegie Dance Troupe
Moderated by our own Gal Lee, Co-Founder of Chinatown Together
We acknowledge that Christianity as a religious institution has enacted historical and ongoing harm to many communities and by extension, church buildings can hold complex memories and feelings. To ensure the venue aligns with Chinatown Together’s values around accessibility, we have collaborated with 360 社區 Community to implement additional measures within the event space. If you are interested in attending and have further questions regarding venue safety, please reach out and email us and we would be happy to discuss accommodations.
Event Amenities:
Snacks and beverages will be provided, courtesy of Chinatown Together throughout the event.
Help us continue Chinatown Together events until the end of the year!
We short on funding to be able to run events until the end of the year. If you love the free and inclusive public cultural events that we host in Chinatown to push back against gentrification, please consider donating.
