"Holding on by a thread": A special story on Vancouver Sun
Push to revive the Chinese unicorn dance comes to Vancouver this Saturday, Apr 13
Today, the Vancouver Sun published a beautiful story by journalist Joanne Lee-Young on the revival of the Chinese unicorn Hakka qilin dance tomorrow. You’ll hear directly from the voices of the various Hakka people who were serendipitously brought together by the mythical qilin. Read the story here. (It’ll be in print tomorrow, so grab a few copies for us!)
At Chinatown Together, we’re so honoured to be able to part of this historic moment for the Hakka people in Vancouver and Canada, and to help stop this important cultural practice from being erased through amnesia.
Join us and the Hakka Association tomorrow to witness and participate in the dance tradition (and we heard a Knowledge Network documentary film crew will be there to capture this special moment!):

Help us to stop cultural erasure in Chinatown
We’re able to help revive the Chinese unicorn Hakka qilin dance in Chinatown because of donations from community members like you. If you love the work we’re doing and want to see us continue free and inclusive public cultural events in Chinatown to push back against gentrification, please donate to help us keep going:
