We’re going to the Vancouver Public Library for Asian Heritage Month today!
Today, we’re heading to the Vancouver Public Library for free screening and panel on May 6th for their Uplift Asian series for Asian Heritage Month!
On the post-screening panel, we’ll be joined by our friends Beverly Ho (Yarrow Society), Pearl Wong (Queer Lunar New Year / Chinatown Today), and Swallow Zhou (a Chinatown elder), and you’ll hear from their experiences working, living, and organizing for Chinatown.
The registration is full right now, but you can sign up for the waitlist that will likely open today.
Help us continue events like Flex and Flow in Chinatown
Aren’t these snaps of community flexing and flowing to the classical Butterfly Lovers song led by elder Swallow Zhou beautiful?
Our hope with Chinatown Together is to be able to continue to keep animating public spaces like the Chinatown Plaza Mall for community to flex and flow in Chinatown together.
But we need your help.
Events like Flex and Flow and Chinatown Matriarch’s Day do cost money to run — from insurance to equipment costs to artist honouraria to transportation costs and more — and the expenses add up even though we’re an efficient team.
Most of our funding comes from community contributions, and we’re short funding to be able to host events at the same pace of twice a month as we do right now.
We have no significant government funding sources confirmed for the rest of the year.
To continue the work we do, we need your help to cover the shortage. Please consider donating what you can to the Chinatown Together Cultural Fund:
